Our jobs are easy/we have a lot of free time
This is assumed about pretty much every single job within the arts. Keep in mind that you only see one part of the process. We have to balance budgeting our time for each photo shoot that we have (and remember that we likely have other photos to edit from previous sessions) along with our non-job related plans.
And just because we do most of our work from home, does not mean we have an excess amount of free time. We get to work from the comfort of our homes, but the keyword here is that we are still working. Because we work at home means that sometimes it’s impossible for us to relax and take time off, knowing that we can still be working.

We’ll give you a discount because we know you
While we probably will give you a discount if you are someone we care about, it’s not polite to ask for a discount or assume you’ll get one just because you know us. If you truly love and respect our work, you will understand that our prices take into account how much work we already have and will put into your photos. We do not get to keep all of the money we are payed for a session. Our prices take into account how much money stays with us after taxes, and paying for equipment and software. Remember that even photographers have to earn a living wage too. We have regular expenses just like everyone else, so please, do not assume that because we’re photographers that we don’t deserve to get paid the wage we deserve.
“Your camera takes good pictures!”
We know our cameras are capable of taking technically high quality photos, but we are are ones who choose the settings, compose the photo, and edit them afterwards. It’s a small thing, but when someone says this to a photographer it diminishes the amount of time and effort that goes into taking beautiful photographs.
